Richardson Wireless Klub invites DMS - Call for Help

You should take Walter’s demo direct conversion receiver. The Raduino VFO on it is arduino based. It’s also on my Bitx40v3 and uBITX.

Excellent idea! Walter was a highly respected member of RWK. Who should I see about using it?

@artg_dms - Do you have the receiver? It would be appreciated by this group.

It’s on the AR desk in the back of the Elab.

@artg_dms @Adam_Overman - That’s fantastic! I’m not sure how portable it is. I would like to pick up a couple of key components around March 1 and return them after the April 11 RWK meeting.

Art - Is that ok? I’m fine to go with just the picture and story if you would rather.

I would like to also have a slide in memory of Walter that mentions his DMS activity and many classes. Seems like there was something on the forum or wiki but I don’t remember where.

Take the board.
Don’t take it apart.
I think Adam has used it and found it in working order.

Thanks very much!

Yup, Ben and I hooked the antenna up and fed the beefy rails 12v it fired right up. It worked great, but it could use one more stage, a broadcast band filter. The raduino software on it is interesting because it shows just how far the community has developed it. On my µBITX I use [KD8CEC's](http://www.hamskey.com/) fork of the software which gives me CAT control by plugging the USB on the Nano into a computer. I’m using a rPI for my digital shack in a box build.

Here are a couple picks of my Bitx40v3 that show it.

Here’s some links on Talk on some of Walter’s projects.
Don’t think anyone made slides, etc.

What a great tribute to a Silent Key (deceased Ham Radio Operator).

I need to prepare handouts for the event described in the top posting above. I would like to prepare handouts on a folded piece of 8.5*11 paper. If you can supply files for the first two half pages I’ll add the info about Electronics committee and our classes on the last two. Please forward any files that would be appropriate to me.

Thanks, Brady

I didn’t see the OP back in Jan.

Would you rather a tri-fold which would give 6 pages?

I’ll see if we can get someone to dedicate some time over the weekend to put something together for you.

No problem.

If you want to take it on and do six pages that would be awesome. I can supply two pages. One page will be mainly a list of the seven Arduino classes that @NickWebb and I offer. The other page will be mainly the ~6 other electronics classes that others have offered recently and will be repeating. I can send you the info tomorrow,

If you don’t have anyone available, just send me general DMS content for two pages. Either way is fine.
@artg_dms @Team_Electronics

Thanks to everyone who responded with help and encouragement. The meeting is Monday March 11 at 6:30PM and everyone is invited. Location is St. Barnabas Presbyterian Church, 1220 W. Beltline Road, Richardson, Texas 75080. SBPC is due east of Richardson High School on Belt Line Road.

With permission of @artg_dms, I will be picking up Walter Anderson’s Direct Conversion Receiver display to show. I will return it a few days after the meeting.

I’m not entirely sure if I can use the car early enough to get there by 630, but if I can would you like me to bring my bitx40v3 and µBITX that use the same raduino VFO with two different updated firmwares?

Adam - I have slides on about 14 projects by local hams and several will be bringing their projects including a uBITX but more is always welcome and your case certainly is unique. There is bound to be a story behind it. I’ll add your pictures to the presentation. I see your call is W9ECO.

I will only have about 1.5 minutes for each project. Give me a few sentences about why you like the BITX family of products. Also, how do you pronounce uBITX? Is it you-bitx or micro-bitx?

Here are a couple of good pics. I still have to finish the final wiring on the screen and power in the uBITX, but I have tested it with ft8 and received psk31.

It is micro bitx.

The bitx radios fill a voided in the amateur market by being inexpensive and easy to build so they remove that barrier to upgrading for techs looking to upgrade but can’t afford black box rig. Building and breaking my bitx40 bu feeding its power backwards helped get me back into electronics. The arduino nano based VFO makes it a very hackable rig. USB cat control from the nano means you only have to add a couple of audio patch cable and a computer or phone to start working digital modes. Lastly there is a wonderful community working on mods, hacks, and updates that can be a great resource for answering questions.

I hope that’s concise enough.

Thats great. Thanks.
