Let’s Get Together

Can you elaborate please?

I believe he was impressed by the size of your smoker.

Mike…

It’s called “tongue-in-cheek” humor (see the winking emoji in the original post).

It’s not about the size, It’s about how you use it.

The next smoker I built will have a vertical chamber as well to hang sausage to smoke. I helped build a friends several years ago using 2 large old air tanks. 80-100 gallon each. We did a vertical chamber & it turned out great. Tanks were not my idea, he had already started working on it before I got involved.
Nice smoker by the way Scott

Why not just use a filling cabinet?

Yeah, he’s just showing off while making it look like he is volunteering to actually put it to use. Have you ever seen one that clean for long enough to take a photo before bringing on the fire?

Love this about you Tim.

You are one of the good ones.

It’s brand new. I just had it built. :man_shrugging:t3: I’m living in a rental.

I’ll try to think up some more excuses after my morning coffee.

I’m looking for the ultimate cut of (beef/buffalo/pork/other meat) for the maiden firing. For what I spent, I’m not wasting that privilege on a Kroger-house-brand-weiner.

Whaddya mean “too clean”? I’ll have you know I’m a very fastidious grill meister.

Keeping the dream alive!

@TBJK how is the planning going? Do we have any idea on DATE or LOCATION?

I’ve been wanting to get back into doing some amazing things with DMS and making more DMS moments that people will always remember. So, I thought if I could get a budget of say $1500-$2000, we could do a really nice fireworks display at the picnic. I know some will think this is too much money, but I’m talking a fully Licensed, Insured and Permitted display, that would likely cost $10K+ if we hired a company to do it. I’d be calling in a lot of favors to make this happen.

Also, to serve the idea of making and learning, I would work with the Fireworks Company that is Licensing, Insuring, and Permitting the display to offer the ability for DMS members to come and learn the process of setting up the display and possibly help out in building it. The company I would work with has helped and taught this material at my Fireworks Group events, so they are knowledgeable and have worked with newbies on professional displays and know the safety lectures and instruction required to do this. This would require a waiver, to indemnify all groups involved, which I already have from my pyrotechnics group.

With the budget and my connections, I can offer this to the group as a kind of crossover between Pyrotechnic Artist of Texas and Dallas Makerspace. That way DMS doesn’t have to deal with any new liability from the idea and we can do something we have never done at a DMS event. This would be a professional fireworks display with all that is required to put it on. Plus, we already have some overlap between DMS and PAT, with @Lampy, Me, @uglyknees, @Josh_Melnick, @Robert_Davidson, @hon1nbo, @william_petefish and other being members of both groups.

Tim chose Sunday, June 2 (a week from tomorrow) at 1 pm.
Location is planned for back parking lot. However, depending on outcome of landlord-walk-through-meeting, might relocate to warehouse in suite formerly known as 102.

While DMS will likely underwrite the paper goods, Tim prefers to keep it a voluntary potluck sort of event. I am following his lead. Any “budgeting” that might be taking place is doing so separately.

The flyer is linked above, but has not been posted (yet) at suggestion of Board, due to planned meeting with landlord.

Cool, not the right place or enough time to make Fireworks happen, but maybe next time.

If we were at a park and had about 3 weeks, I probably could of made it work.

You can get a city permit for fireworks in a park? Cool!

Yep,
I’ve even been able to get permits for shooting on a lake.

@Nick, Halloween fireworks… you have time. Plan it crush it kill it.

I agree, this would be beneficial to the space to get more word out. I see it as a PR thing.

Maybe, the catch it I have a PAT event September 13-15 and another group display the 21st of September. I might be out of favors by Halloween. But, I’ll keep it in mind once we have a official date and location.

Check out this location. It’s not far from DMS, and it has a large structure for events. Close by is a river that could even host camping and bonfires.

What do you think?
