Ceramic Classes Being Added

Is there a difference between the free handbuilding mugs class and the one that cost $5?

yes the free one was made for specific participants according to the event description where as the $5 is open to all

Oh, I didn’t mean that one. I mean the new one on the 10thvs the one on the 22nd. the handbuilding ones not the wheel ones. Although I guess adding in that third one has it: 1 free public handbuilding class, 1 paid handbuilding class, and 1 free but private wheel class. I don’t really care, was just curious what the difference is. shrug

It’s different teachers… the teacher sets up the class as they see fit. One might be providing materials, the other might expect you to bring your own - or one teacher wanted to add the $5 to help prevent no-shows or just to help fund DMS/committee.

The real answer though it is up to the teacher - we leave a lot of discretion to them. The end-user [student] gets to decide if the class is worth the time/effort/money.

it will just be a difference in technique and how they make the said items

Ah, got it. thanks :+1: I think when i first joined we (teachers) could only charge if we were providing a consumable (if it was an honorarium class). It’s been way too long since I’ve taught/regularly been up at the space for sure! Thanks for responding

I believe if you are receiving honorarium, the teacher cannot receive any money directly - any money paid by the students would go to DMS. Re-imbursement for consumables/supplies would come from the committee [chair].

ooh, derp. duh. I was mixing up several classes I saw on the calendar. Some do the ‘charge in the system’ others just have ‘free’ but then list costs in the title or in the description and I’d swapped those accidentally. that’s more in line when my memory of the teaching rules or whatever. thanks!

Re: 9/22 – I had charged for supplies on the last h/b class I gave, as it was open to non-members as well. I didn’t notice that that was still in there when I copied the class. Goes to DMS, though…

No worries! that makes a lot of sense. I just wasn’t sure what the difference in the classes were so i figured I’d ask

My glazing class will be 9/30 at 6pm

I have two classes coming up!

Sat. 3/19 Project Class: a combined ceramics/glass project where we slip cast a flower pot/vessel to hold a stained glass piece. 1-4pm *This is currently showing as full but does have 1 empty spot in it if you click on the event listing anyway.

Mon. 3/14 Slip Casting: this is not specifically for the above class, though those interested in the combined ceramics/glass project could take this too. It’s just a general class for learning how to slip cast.

And FYI: I am also putting up two non-Ceramics related ukulele classes as well!

Do you know how to view the attachments for the stained glass examples? I’m intrigued but the events page attachment option has never seemed to work properly

The pictures are also posted in the March Show and Tell thread. Here is a link: Show and Tell March 2022 - #14 by thefinal

Hrm, I wonder why that is. @Team_Calendar any reason why perhaps images aren’t working? In mean time I can link to thread in the description (I think)?

The Calendar doesn’t like images. Links work, but not images.

Due to Glazing 103 filling up at 12p on the 26th, I’ve also created another Glazing 103 on the 26th at 2:30p, may take a few days before it shows up in the calendar.
