I’m just curious if the link to the Video Call Hangout is actually working during the meeting? (edited: No, there is no video recording.)
I am not currently a member, but if I were to become a member before the meeting… is this type of meeting open to members participating in or to at-least listen in?
Thanks for linking that. Abel, please read that can of worms… no one plans to stream the meeting (to my knowledge). I do know that we have several members that do not like to have their image transmitted/recorded, and we do have to respect their wishes.
So then after going through that thread that was mostly about the ‘video’ recording of the meeting…
I am very interested to know if the Board of Directors Meetings are closed to NON-Members?
I was told by a well respected member of the Talk community that NON-Members are not allowed to attend even in a listen only capacity. Is this correct?
There’s no specific rule against non-members being at a board meeting, but we do request that non-members refrain from participating in the discussions.
As a non-member the meeting likely has little significance and would probably be fairly boring, plus they can run quite long (up to 4 hours, sometimes more).
I lead a boring life I guess. LOL I would like to attend and listen in. I have read the minutes of the last few meetings and wonder how the conversation goes into those minutes notes.
sigh I’d rather [ed: not] have had this can of worms opened up again, since I started the original thread.
Actually, we don’t “have to”, as there is nothing prohibiting anyone from filming the meeting.
Now, as far as “being considerate to others”, that’s something we should [ed: do to] be excellent.
I think the officers and committee chairs can’t claim any expectation of privacy during the meetings, so the problem can be solved by only pointing the camera at the board. It would be very nice to participate/watch remotely like C-SPAN.
[ed: I think I needed more sleep before this post … my english teacher would be appalled]
To be honest I would be happy with an audio recording. My interest in ‘hearing’ the discussions is so that I can know what transpired before ending up with the results that are entered in on the Minutes that anyone (non-members included) can read.
An audio recording wouldn’t upset anti-camera people and should only be looked at as a record of the meeting to refer back to when verifying the minutes are correctly noted.
We have a contingent of people at DMS who are trying to live anonymous lives (in the middle of one of the biggest metropolitans in the nation). Some of them object to voice recordings, too.
Alex… if you would allow me. I would love to help with this. If you use YouTube (especially the DMS YouTube channel) you can do a YouTube LIVE On-Air which is purely watch and listen only and there is a chat box for the people watching to chat amongst themselves.
I have used this method many times with about 100-200 viewers.
Why is the LIKE button on this post not spiked?
Thank you, Alex, for attempting it.
Thank you, Brooks and Abel for enabling/assisting.
Thank you Zach for not letting sleeping dogs lie.
