DMS YouTube Videos - Marketing our 'space to others

So, there have been some threads that involve privacy and video recording and how many are opposed to being recorded (video and audio). One aspect of how I would like to contribute to DMS is help grow awareness using YouTube and Facebook.

How can I or anyone else create informative videos about the things going on in here at DMS? Do I need to make videos that take an additional 4-6 hours of post editing so that I can blur faces and track them in the background as they pass in front of the camera???

Usually, when someone wants to conduct a video production around the Space, they put out notices that they will be filming at specific times, and maybe even reserve some rooms. Then, if someone shows up, they can only blame themselves if they end up on camera.

Just try it and see how it works out. Be open to others concerns when they bring them to you.

But, do it more than talk about it.

If you talk to much you will get talked out of your project. When I have actually seen filming at DMS it has gone pretty smooth. You’ll find the people that don’t want to be filmed will either talk with you or just not be around while your filming.

Make sure your not secretive about filming, informing is the much better path.

I have a similar interest. I have audio recorded some of the DMS classes that I have attended and put them up on Soundcloud (click to see one of them) or into the Makerspace computer.

I have more of these recordings but I have run into the time limit of the free subscription offered by Soundcloud. I could go to the DMS board and ask for them to fund a subscription. Ideally this would be coordinated with Digital Media who wants to post some podcasts (click to read). All of which I am working on, but I just don’t have a lot of time to spend on this.

Additionally, Opcode, the first poster on this thread has video recorded and uploaded some of the DMS classes he has presented (click here to see a bunch of things he has posted). I work with him and I know he would love it if they could get more views.

If you have the time and interest and some ideas about how this could be developed, let me know and I would be happy to spend some time on it.

This sounds good @amacha … to have more people interested in getting media (A/V) out there to help market the things that are going on at the 'space.

I don’t think paying for a SoundCloud subscription would be the best value, but there are plenty of other ways to store any audio recordings for free or atleast for pennies.

Let’s put our minds together and get some direction put into motion. I have yet to speak to anyone from DM even though I have peeked into the DM room everytime I go to the 'space.

I’ve been putting some brain cells on this and had discussions with a couple folks at the space over the last few days. I’m still a little too new to the space to really have a full understanding of the needs and best ideas, but will be trying to come up to speed on what the best direction will be in the next few weeks and months.
