The Who:
You - you are invited to participate. This is a chance to show everyone what you do and how you do it - in a pulled together showing of skills and abilities within the constraints of ten whole inches by ten whole inches. @Kevin and @JBluJkt are the leaders in this party and will collect and hang work, to get the word out and to lead the charge of filling the halls with artwork and style.
The What:
You’re invited to get yourself a 10X10 board from the warehouse and do whatever it is that you do. Your end product need not be mounted or made from the board. Your end product can be vastly different. Your end product can be whatever it is that you do. Scroll down to the end for more examples.
They want to change the format a bit with a looser ever-changing show focusing on getting tours involved with the process- so they are working on a system of a rolling voting system with tours and a “hall of fame display” for the winners of this popular vote.
The Where:
Pick up and drop off your boards in the warehouse. I guess now it’s considered “the old warehouse” to the right right as you enter the door. Look at this picture and hopefully you can find it. This is where you will drop off your finished works as well.
The When:
If you have an existing 10X10 or can create a work within a tight deadline the first deadline will be November 19th they will be hung by November 21st by @JBluJkt
The next “fixed” date for turn in/hanging will be December 3rd. Tight deadlines-so get moving.
The How:
Well that’s the fun silly stretch your maker mind around a box and get it back to us to see.
Rules: put your name, phone number, talk name on the back of the board
Here are a few pictures of 10X10’s that I could quickly gleen from the talk - please post more. As you can tell media, content, look, theme…it’s all open. That’s the beauty of the show.
They are almost out of the 10X10 blanks so if you can contribute by cutting up some scrap and putting more in the pile more power to you. Metal…fibers…paper…it’s all open.
@Kevin is contacting old participants of the 10X10 show I will do the same from the list of members I have from way long ago.
I actually did my second 10”x10” in 4 years. I am happy with the outcome for the most part. I am looking forward to seeing the other ones that show up this year. This is probably my favorite everyone can participate type thing at DMS.
So I have put R2D2 in the 10x10 area. He is in a Trader Joe grocery bag because he is fabric and will get dirty, plus there is a USB cord coming out of him.
Maybe it’d be useful if someone posted current guidelines for new works, like whatever the last batch were. Constraints on size, weight, how far they could stick out (I remember this one changing from original first show)
Me and Kevin will do our best to make it happen for all submissions Plenty of space to accommodate anything weird. May not be prime wall space, but we can manage.
So, the team putting this together is doing this rock and roll style aka “bring it and we will make it work” emphasis on the “bring it” part of the conversation. As the objective is just to get art up on the walls and maker ways be displayed.
Trust in the process everyone…make your art and let the punk rock kids shine you up perfectly fine and probably crack you up a few times along the way. If you do better with restrictions and expectations read the old ones in the list and proceed. No harm either way. Just make something and make yourself proud.
