I submitted a new class for October 28th , keep an eye for it when it shows up within 72 hours.
There have been two members adding classes [@ScienceElf and myself], I just shadowed another member so he is going to be able to teach classes too.
I try and teach at least 3 classes a month; I just added one for Nov 4 [https://calendar.dallasmakerspace.org/events/view/16054 - goes live in 72 hours]. I would just keep checking the calendar, there is not a set schedule on when people add classes.
Hello! My brother and I are very excited to make use of our membership and need training in the woodshop.
Sundays work best for us but we should be able to accommodate other dates if needed. We are also willing to pay someone if needed!
Hello, I just added awoodshop basic training for Friday Nov 6 at 6:30 pm.
It should be visible on the calendar in about 4 days.
FYI to teachers, 200 board feet of poplar Was delivered today for classes. It’s in the normal spot.
FYI to future purchasers, 200 board feet is pretty much a perfect fit in one of the vertical storage silos.
Just a FYI, there are two Woodshop Basic Classes on the calendar with free space:
Friday, Nov 6 - https://calendar.dallasmakerspace.org/events/view/16092
Tuesday, Nov 10 - https://calendar.dallasmakerspace.org/events/view/16093
For future classes - what days of the week work best?
I would like to offer a teacher incentive for a 1-1 training, hoping to train as soon as possible. Who would I contact? Thanks,

Colby - be sure to request a green dot in the member services area.
You’re in the right thread to offer. If no-one responds you can sign up for any of the classes the teachers post. There are spots in both of the classes listed in the post above yours for example.
The are open spots for upcoming classes, the next opening is tomorrow at 6:30 pm
I currently have a function in the evening tomorrow, are there any availabilities for the morning? Long shot I’m sure as it would conflict with most peoples work schedules. Is there specific training or someone I need to reach out to in order to use the CNC machines as well? Thanks,
For a future class…how about a Thursday? I know myself and a plus one would be able to schedule quickly.
These are the classes I submitted for December, they should be available in the calendar within a day.
Related question, how does one get certified to teach woodshop basics?
Pretty typical of any required training course…
- Take said course as a student
- Feel comfortable using the machines and how they operate
- Shadow a class [watching how it is taught and noting what’s being covered]
- With the approval of Committee Chair, find an existing instructor and schedule a class [the existing instructor will shadow you and give you pointers]
- If everyone feels comfortable with things, you are now an instructor allowed to teach & schedule classes to fit in your schedule.
Teaching is fun and worthwhile; while COVID makes it a real PITA, hopefully those days are numbered. Everyone can teach a class about something - it doesn’t have to be something big and fancy (just something you enjoy or can do); your first class might not be perfect, but it will get better over time.
Is this also where we can request a class on the Laser cutters?
