Last year we had several (3 at a time actually) demos or take-a-ways going on in the CA room with several people giving out information. It was a bit hectic but it was seriously fun. Everything from leather to embroidery to portraits drawn on the spot.
Who is willing to participate and join in by demonstrating a tool, talking to folks, or facilitating a small workshop?
Bribery @John_Marlow - embroidery demo? @bitta - leather spectacular (possibly small thing they could take away) @Photomancer - metal paints? @CaryF300 - dye sub (possibly small take away - I would purchase) @pandabob - printer demo @Adam_Oas - vinyl demo with small takeaways @wandrson - talking to the people and instruments @kyrithia - spinning demos @mreynolds - shapeoko
I’m tentatively in. Schedules have been insane for me in the past couple months, but I think that light at the end of the tunnel is, in fact the end and not a train.
We could also warp up the inkles and allow folks to weave a little on them. I think several folks could help with that.
I need to see if I need to see how much time I need to commit to jewelry also that day,
Sewing something like the animal feed tote bags could be make and take. The bags could be cut and just some simple seams needed. I hope that my life will be more settled in Aug (hubby’s hospitalization and then I had to go the ER yesterday–hoping the rule of three doesn’t mean the dog will need to go to the vet!)
sorry about all your medical issues lately. I hope everything will be well. If you can remember last year the room was packed so I think it best to have one instructor and a few things out for people to explore. Say you on your loom and have two so people can try them out. We had 3 demos going at three tables simultaneously.
I understand - no need to commit with a firm stamp I’m just seeing what all we are looking at and how we can prepare.
Even if it is a train it’s just teaching you how to jump.
Is it possible for us to have some space in the interactive room or has someone else reserved that already, Last year, Vector had the purple classroom,
Interactive classroom is going to be part pine derby and part maker showcase. Not really a hands on area. Things are going to be tighter this year. Not trying to discourage you at all. I want you to participate. I just want you to plan accordingly.
I am available that day, and open to the idea of doing something with the dye sub. Let me take a look at some options for a takeaway that would be inexpensive.
If you want to do dog tags, we could pre-press one side with the Makerspace logo, and have a collection of pre-printed designs for them to pick from and press on the other side. I can get double-sided white dog tags locally for $0.82 each in lots of 25.
What about guitar picks? Maybe with our logo on one side and options of views of Dallas on the other side, Reunion tower, skyline, the new bridge, etc, then can be punched for a pendent if someone wanted that option.
Which group has the conference room? wondering if it would work for the soft CA work, the embroidery machine, spinning etc?
Just not enough room, but it would be nice if traditional arts were able to have a spot, instead of mostly the tech based CA.
They tend to appeal to different folks, The younger more computer savvy will be attracted to the tech ones, while us older folks may be drawn tot the traditional ones as well, Fiber arts, leatherworking, sewing and we are ignoring painting and drawing
You were helping out during open house last year. You did a great job facilitating a project and talked to a ton of people. Just think about it in the same eyes knowing what it was like.
I’m willing to participate. I don’t know the logistics of this, but maybe we could find a way to do DMS patches and (some) people could take one. @Nick would be helpful in figuring out how to do this.
As a constructive suggestion … Last year I seem to recall being there and doing demos for the entire event - which therefore felt pretty long (at least to me). Since there are so many things we’d like to demonstrate, maybe we wouldn’t demonstrate them all at the same time and people could have “shifts”. The items not being demonstrated could possibly be set up in order to still generate interest.
