I have heard suggestions that we name the classrooms. People have suggested various themes; vs. functional names like “lecture hall” etc.
I liked the suggestion of naming the classrooms after planets - based on relative sizes. This would be my suggestion:
Thoughts and comments? (Aside from the pedantic fact that Pluto is technically a small planet, which I do know).
EDIT: We could name Lecture Hall “Saturn” since Saturn and Jupiter are net to each other. This would make the new lobby classroom Neptune, which is the furthest planet anyway,
My only real thought is we might be working ourselves into a corner for available names in the future. I have tried to pick naming conventions that are “unlimited” for future use instead of things with a finite set site (like say 9 planets).
Might I suggest city names? You have an infinite list, they can have meanings to people (a terrible example would be one of CA’s rooms be named Paris), and most of the times they are well enough known by people to be spelled and pronounced correctly.
I’d like to suggest doing this AND the planet/city/auxiliary naming scheme… Where is that class? Oh, in Pluto, the Orange Room. Oh no, they moved to Mercury, the Purple Room. or “Could you point me to Paris the Brown Room?”
What solar system are you living in? Earth is NOT the only planet with water:
Also, I suggest we name the rooms after our favorite IP address, which provides for unlimited creativity and for additional rooms as they become available. Someone, please start a poll to determine which IPs are considered top or most appropriate candidates.
I’d be tempted to place both Mercury (in the 3D fab) and Venus (in the purple classroom) along the west wall where the setting Sun turns both rooms into fiery infernos.
I’ll be that guy that ruins creativity. Using plain old numbers that start on one end and increase make it VERY easy to find your way without need a map or directions. Maybe with designaters for each of the two building sides. Like N101, N102, N103, / S101, S102, S103.
Once you know the names of rooms it doesn’t matter I guess, but when you don’t know having a system you can interpret does.
I know it may seem less imaginative to name them colors, but this is a very practical idea. I like Brandon and Melissa’s ideas of using colors for room names. Open a crayon box and you have lots of choices.
