The machine intro classes for Bridgeport mill and the metal lathe can make small repair pieces for DMS committees. If a committee has a machine that needs a bushing, spacer, guide rod or small, simple bracket made, frequently this can serve well for teaching while getting something done that needs doing. These are intro classes, so small (a few inches at most in the largest dimension) and simple are best. A drawing is also a good idea (can be hand drawn). A critical precision and/or expensive part modification shouldn’t be be thrown at an intro class (unless one is harboring a secret desire to buy a new one).
I will check responses to this message for candidate projects.
