New Multicam Collet Cover Nut Wrench ... YAY!

We have the first edition of the new Multicam cover nut wrench at the Space for evaluation! It looks something like this:

alternate%20cover%20nut%20wrench%20design

The normal wrench made for the ER 25 Mini nut that our spindle requires is a “Crown” style wrench. It’s a bit awkward to use anytime and is a real headache when installing wide diameter tooling such as the big V bit with replaceable carbide inserts and the spoilboard surfacing bit.

The New Design - Looked for ways to reduce the vertical height of the wrench. A proposal was generated and Alberto Bravo came up with a Fusion 360 model of the design. Then Thomas Fagan refined the model a bit more after 3D printing an initial plastic prototype. He then used the plasma cutter and other metal methods to produce a workable test wrench. It can and will be further refined, but what is currently available is ready to be evaluated by the DMS authorized users.

Please report back on your observations and suggestions.

As a primer, here’s my first thoughts/comments:

  1. It is longer than the Castle wrench. Maybe it should be a little shorter so it does not contact the Z axis rail.
  2. Question: Should it have a bottom to help with alignment. Can test by using epoxy to attach a 5/8" ID fender washer that is cut to match the wrench opening.
  3. Question: In addition to the washer, would a rare earth magnet on the washer be helpful in keeping the wrench in place on the nut?

Thanks again to @albertombravo & @Tres0422 for their efforts to get this made!
