I have a business idea

This is the truth

I do wonder if the luxury garage places have issues with guys trying to live there.

My wife thinks this might be what I build if we split up. The only correction I see is another room for electronics, computers, 3D printers, radios, etc.

And maybe the bathroom goes between the bedroom and kitchen at my age.

Seems most likely immediately post divorce proceedings. Seen it in commercial flex spaces - creature comforts hastily bubba’ed into units previously occupied by independent tradespeople.

(plane not included, apparently…cheapskates!)

But now that there is a possibility of an aircraft, now you need to add a designated metal working room. Hmm. Really ought to be a change on my print as well.

That’s what I was thinking…there needs to be sequestered shop space with enough power/HVAC/dust control to make it usable.

A 2-post lift at garage door entry might be nice, too.

Just sent that listing to the boss! Let’s see what she thinks? Lol

They have fly into community’s. There is one off Park & Plano Parkway in Plano. There is also one by my house outside Shady Shores.

Certainly thought about them myself.

The boss said No! :disappointed:

Maybe it’s time to turn in your two-week notice?

The have one of these places just down Marsh Lane from where I live. I actually toured one because I think it is an excellent solution for “what ails me”. The fact is they are home-away-from-home garages.

The one I saw had a hydraulic life, staircase to an upper deck, fridge, bathroom, sofa, table, chairs etc. It was 24 feet tall so you could park a large motorhome, boat or multiple cars in it. The guy showing me around was a co-owner of the company, a famous Formula-1 race card driver and owned at least 10 vintage Porsches, Ferraris and American Hotrods.

It was decorated with fine art of Formula One races. The cost: $650,000-$1.6 Million for each garage. Yeah, a little out of my price range, but what a deal.

And to think I was going to build out a wood shop and metal shop there.

O and I forgot, they have a community party center complete with bar, snacks, and lots of comfy furniture.

And, it is against the rules to sleep there all the time. You can occasionally, if you’ve just been working too hard on your car and don’t want to drive home unsafely.

Air park Dallas is the name of the one at park and Plano parkway. It has been around a long time. The ownership of the runway was contested heavily when the nursery on the corner and the adjacent commercial properties were purchased. The new owner insisted that his properties accounted for controlling rights to the runway, and was going to tear up the runway and develop it, leaving all the hangar homes “air locked”. That same developer has been buying up any homes with runway rights that have been willing to sell. So I fear at some point the ever diminishing number of owners will give up on the maintenance costs for the runway.

But there are a number of other air park developments around. Usually the price to get in the development starts over $1M. I usually figure any house with a hangar is in an airpark, or has taxi rights to an adjacent airport.

I had seen the “prestige” storage/garages on 121 and thought they might make sense, having shared walls, and minimum footprint, though I expected the HOA dues to cover the exterior to be potentially problematic. But I was expecting some cost savings. When I saw what they were selling for, I figured it might be cheaper to buy land and build a garage on it. Apparently they are targeting an upscale and/or business market.

Here is one if anyone has spare change burning a hole in their pocket.

lol

I once worked with someone who bought a plot of land in a “boutique” development. This one catered to water skiers. It looks like it still exists.

If I had money to invest, I would lease one of the nearby units and open a self-storage facility for DMS members.
