My Firm has offered to match donations today at a rate of 2x (for every dollar I donate it will donate two dollars). Can I prepay 1/3rd of the annual membership dues and be credited for the remainder when my firm’s contribution comes in? If membership is $648 then I make a donation for $216 and the firm donates $432.
Your dues are not considered charitable contributions. If you donated to the space without receiving anything, such as contributing to the general fund or a specific committee, that would count as a charitable contribution.
As a non-profit donated materials, funds, and labour allow us to keep the cost of our services low but they are services rendered nonetheless.
I’m not in a good position to answer that with numbers. However keep in mind, a large part of what we receive charitably is in the form of machinery, volunteer labour, and discounts on stuff we do have to buy.
Thanks Robert. Do you know if program service revenue (part 1 row 9) was reclassified to Contributions and Grants (part 1 row 8) between 2017 and 2018?
