I love that! Was it a kit you bought? I would love to do that from a picture of my dog!

I REALLY like your Lego dog portrait thing. FWIW, Lego has started selling similar kits: https://www.lego.com/en-us/campaigns/art

It’s hard to tell with framing, but your piece looks like it’s about 96x96 studs, for a total of 9216 pieces. I bought a sample of the official Lego 1x1 flat studs to try and get a feel for color etc. At $0.06 a piece from their online store, something this size would cost $552.96 if I went that route. I’m sure there’s better bulk discount opportunities

Look up pixcelit … I think I spent $200 for a 36"x36" … gave them the pic and they hooked me up with the paint by numbers pages with all the colors. They have for more colors than Lego and were the only ones offering larger sizes. Each panel was 12x12. I’d completely do this again but it took months for me to finish it with a fairly busy life. Bought some walnut and thin ply and made the frame at the space.

I have had a very productive day.

On Bricklink.com I can get all of the bricks for it for approximately $170.

On Lego’s site, I’m seeing the 1x1 flat top round being only $0.04 each. The 2x2 flat top round are $0.07 each. I’m not seeing more than 2 colors right now though.

Square 1x1’s that this search starts with is where I was looking: https://www.lego.com/en-us/page/static/pick-a-brick?query=1x1%20plate&page=1

So these weren’t what you were looking for? I thought these were the ones used for pictures.

Flat tops are much more limited than the 1X1 plates, as they are known in LEGO lingo. You can find them used on line for $0.01 each, or less, when shopping internationally. However a 36" x 36" design would use approximately 13k pieces, so it adds up.

They usually use the 1X1 plates. The official LEGO Art sets appear to use the 1X1 rounds, but they all have the studs showing. The have to show the little LEGO logo thousands of times.

Thanks for offering, @themitch22!

3D fab is definitely a good fit, especially since there are printable files out there.

bahaha… jokes on him. I learnt how to walk on lego pieces as a kid after the nth time finding one around the house that way.

They have a Lego user group meeting I’ve been invited but haven’t joined yet. I still want to start collecting pieces for DMS if anyone has boxes they want to donate.

I just started hearing their ads recently and did not realize there were other locations.

Grapevine makes sense since LEGOLAND is there.
