Bandsaw Blade Breakin?

Continuing the discussion from Vertical Bandsaw Blade:

Because I don’t understand variable pitch notation, I was trying to figure out what a 10-14 blade was in relation to Bryan’s post. In so doing I found myself on this web page which seems like a nice little infoasis.

I’d never heard of “breaking in” a bandsaw blade, but it’s noted on this page as an important part of putting on a new blade. Is this full of crap, or is this another facet to bandsaw etiquette I was lacking?

The MFG of the blade actually recommends that. I’m too lazy to do it, though. Who has a bunch of metal laying around that they don’t mind randomly cutting into smaller pieces?

Can it cut copper? I am wanting to cut some copper tubing (ice maker size) into 1/2 in and 3/8 in pieces.

I wouldn’t see any reason why not. It may leave more burrs though

Just follow the speed settingsfrom the chart on the saw. Also a blade with 10-14 tpi is best suited for material 3/16" or thicker.

You really need finer pitch blades for thinner material.
