What’s the latest on beer brewing at the Space? I heard that we could not have the brewing books in the room with the equipment, and we had until the next inspection to get rid of them. Where do we stand on that? When is the next inspection?
Not tryin’ to jack your topic, but the phrasing you chose kind of leaves it open, and I’m hoping that was your intention…
I think a general update might be good. I know a lot of stuff has been done as noted here, and thank you to the folks puttin’ in the hard time and effort. My question pertains specifically to the plasma cutter situation. I am very foggy on where that’s been left and/or which meetings/minutes I should be checking for the design and fitment of a satisfactory scavenging system and/or what the plan is and/or how we underlings might be able to help…
Ditto for the kilns/paint booth situation…
Thank you.
There has been one visit last week by a company doing a quote for ventilation systems for us. Another company doing a second quote is visiting this afternoon. The BoD is actively working on the problem, but it is going to cost a good bit of money before the plasma table is active again.
My personal opinion is that the kilns will likely be the first of those three systems back online, followed by plasma and lastly paint.
It is a shame that just as a new member had started doing some excellent work on the plasma, and had developed some curriculum for teaching how to use the table, that the fire marshal shut it down.
Ain’t that always how it goes, though?
Thank you for the update on my questions. I feel bad with no news for Richard in his thread that I have now jacked.
You can feel a little bad for that, but I was hoping for a general update, along with my specific questions. I’m concerned about the Space in general, but more so my liability if the beer brewing books remain where they should not. I don’t want to do hard time for that!
So just curious but why can’t the beer brewing books remain in with the carboys? Surely the brewing process doesn’t generate that much heat? Or are we talking about when boiling water and the like? I’ve not seen the space’s brewing setup so not sure what all there is.

For the brewing section of that post:
There’s also been some lively debate about exactly what all this means, much of it later the same thread. To be honest, I’m not sure where we’ve landed on brewing. Which, I think, Richard is not, either, and thus started this topic…
[1]: Fire Marshal visit
Exactly so; I saw a lot of talk about this for a few days, then, nothing. I assume the electrician is here to rectify electrical issues; I haven’t checked for GFCI in Science, yet. Nobody has officially told me anything, either what needs to be done, what we are doing, are what has been done. I understand that Andrew is going to concentrate on safety issues at the next Board meeting (Sunday), so maybe I will get some answers then.
Who owns those books that are Science area? I think Science needs a meeting to decide what to do with the equipment that has to go, but I don’t know which equipment has to go, or who owns what.
I too am highly curious as to where we are at with brewing, as it is one of the main reasons I am keeping my membership right now. At this point, I am guessing that this it is going to take a polite conversation about home brewing with the fire marshal to find out where his head is at with the idea. We do not need permits at the state or federal level, as they both allow for legal home brewing. I
I am also interested in where we are at with the other issues and would be more the happy to lend a hand if needed.
