I came into the makerspace last night (June 7th at 10:30pm) and I found several egregious cases of tools being left around.
Multiple cases of people not returning clamps to the proper spot (I think I already cleaned up most of the clamps):
Scrap wood being left around:
Leaving the ladder out. Please return the ladder when you are done. Don’t leave the ladder in the middle of a walkway!
Leaving crap on the wood shop tables. Guys, girls, the wood working tables are the best we have (they are the only tables with built in vises). Also, 70% of this stuff has an obvious home:
Leaving big boxes of screw drivers and 90 degree clamps in the middle of the floor for people to trip over. (In fairness, I have no idea where to leave the screws drivers):
Also, I didn’t get a picture of it, but somebody left a block plane on one of the “junk” tables.
This is a community space and it depends on us to keep it clean. Most of us are here as a hobby, if you have time to work here, you should also have time to clean up after yourself. If you are here professionally, then you also don’t have an excuse because you do this as a job.
Remember the golden rule: “Do to others as you would have them do to you.”
As an alternative, I also like this saying: “If a place looks like trash, people will act like trash”
We are all grown adults here. Please act like it.
Edit: I just want to clarify that not every member of the woodshop leaves a mess behind. Also, I understand that ongoing projects create a good amount of debris. Also, egregious offenders probably don’t browse the forum… but, please pick up after yourself when you are done. Please encourage other members to clean up after themselves too.
