WRL Race Feb 13-14 2016 at Circuit of the Americas (Austin, TX)

WRL landed a legitimate F1 track for 2016, but time is short.

Registration is $2200 for two 8-hour sessions. That’s almost cheaper than buying covered seats at an F1 race! They’re taking applications through December 31. Drivers would need to meet WRL’s minimum requirements (Completion of Driver’s Edge, NASA, or SCCA HDPE, or prior Lemons/ChumpCar/wheel-to-wheel driving experience).

I’m pretty sure the 240SX already meets all safety requirements. I’ve seen plenty of other Lemons cars entered into WRL races.

Is this something the Automotive Committee (@Brandon_Green) would be interested in entering? It’s more serious racing than Lemons. I’d be glad to help prepare the car and work the pits.

I would sign on as a driver with the 240 if someone else wants to be team lead (handle signing up, raising money from drivers, arranging car transport, making sure car meets rules, etc)

Roger that. I’d be happy to help, but dont think I’m qualified to lead the team since I’ve never driven for DMS before. However, I would be happy to manage communications with race officials and bug people for cash. Any idea who all would be interested (and eligible)?

Any idea what the DMS team’s expenses were at the last Lemons race? That’d be a good estimate for how much it would cost to run. My team (Intrinsically Unsafe #972) charges about $650 per driver per Lemons race, including ~$250 for registration (per driver). That comes to around $3900 per Lemons race. Therefor, my best guess would be $4600 to field a car for this WRL race, or ~$767 per driver for 6 drivers. Just trying to get in the ballpark here.
