Woodcraft Intro Woodturning Beads & Cove Class

While browsing around, I noticed a (semi) new woodturning class at Woodcraft:

I’ve had a private class from Michael in the past and can vouch for his expertise. The level indicates “intermediate”, but really, beads and coves are beginner exercises like running up and down a scale on a musical instrument. They are typically the first techniques taught and mastered after you learn how not to hurt yourself or the lathe. Almost everything one does on a lathe with a gouge/tool is some form of shaping of the wood into a bead or a cove (or a “V” groove, which will also get taught in this class even though no mentioned), e.g. the outside of a bowl is just the one half of a bead, and a pen section (whether a one-piece pen or two) is also just an elongated bead (or cove, if you are doing something whacky!).

Also, you’ll almost certainly get some hands-on training and help with how to sharpen your spindle gouges (note that the class description indicates you should probably have/bring your own tools, but you only really 2 or 3 basic spindle gouges, or 2 spindle and one standard bowl gouge, for this stuff).
