Wirewrap jewelry classes?

So, I’m wanting to gauge interest if I were to offer wirewrap jewelry classes on a regular basis. I’m thinking a mix of technique-driven classes where the focus is on skill-building and some that are make/take where the focus is more on finished item.

Skill-building ones still revolve around a project, but as a focal for spending more time on building foundational technique. More topics on things like finessing technique and precision, dealing with design challenges, troubleshooting, fixing mistakes, and business topics (if there’s interest) like pricing and selling. I’m thinking more of an open all-level class where there’s educational topics each session that are tailored to those coming. The first several will be what I consider core skills, then the sky’s the limit. They’ll be structured as standalone, but you’ll obviously get more body of knowledge from coming regularly.

Make/take classes are standalone ones where you just wanna come play, finish a neat project for that session, not necessarily deeper technique. Moving faster on just finishing design, not finessing technique. These are fun one-offs.

There will also be a few standalones of more complex designs that aren’t possible to fit into a two-hour session (will be 3-4 hour design-specific classes). More emphasis on getting the design down well enough to practice on your own later.

About me, I’ve had a shop selling my wire jewelry at Scarborough Rennaisance Festival (just south of Dallas in Waxahachie) for 28 years. My style of wire is considered more old-school traditional (lots of square wire and complex precise designs, plus some other directions I wander from time to time).

I’m adding a collage picture so you can get a feel for things. If you want to see more, I have a lot of images and blather on my fb business page.

Schedule wise, I’m thinking some (mostly) Thursday evenings. Would also consider day-maker weekdays if there’s interest. Random rare weekends for the 3-4 hour complex designs.

Interested?

oh those are beautiful!

Katiri Peters is another jeweler & teacher. She has been hanging out at the Arlingtom Gem & Mineral Society. We finally convinced her to start hanging out & teaching at the MakerSpace. She just submitted her first class. I believe it is a wire wrap class. It should show on the calendar tomorrow or Tuesday.

I bet you 2 will have a lot in common and complement each other well. I’ll message you with her contact info.

Awesome. The more the merrier. Yes please, pass along my info. I’ve heard about her (some of my customers at the renfair are active at that gem club) but haven’t gotten down that direction. It’d be fun to meet
