Hey everyone,
any recommendations for a wide angle webcam for OctoPrint? Right now I have this as my field of view for my lulabot which is a little disappointing:
Also if anyone has a suggestion for one with a better Dynamic Range as well as Field of View even better.
Cheers,
-Jim
What kind of camera do you have now?

Logitech of some kind. Unsure of the model. I may be able to find out when a current print is done.
You can see it’s field of view in action here: https://genesis.iot.vitruvian.hackingand.coffee/webcam/?action=stream
Here is a photo of the configuration:

Have you tried adjusting your current configuration? This this is a very good article:
specifically: * -r <resolution> : The resolution, e.g. -r 640x480 for 640x480px
this too:
The following configuration options can be supplied to MJPG Streamer on start to modify certain camera settings. To change any of these options in OctoPi, edit the relevant sections in octopi.txt as described here. USB webcams (input_uvc.so)...

Haha cool, I love being able to watch a print run. Whatcha makin’?
Edit: I recall seeing some stuff about taking some Logitech cams apart and replacing the lenses with wide-angle, so that may be an option…

So besides the fun watching other people’s prints anyone here use a webcam with octoprint that has a good enough field of view?

I use the standard Raspberry Pi Camera with adjusted settings and I get really good results.

how wide is that print area?
Here’s a comparison of lots of Logitech webcams, including Field of View (FOV). It’s a couple of years old but hopefully your camera is listed

Once you know what your camera’s FOV is, you can look for one with a wider FOV.

I’ve got a print volume of 280 mm x 280 mm x 250 mm to cover.
I think I finally found the model of my webcam: Logitech C270, which according to the logitech website is a 60 degree FoV. the raspberry pi camera looks like it has a similar FoV to what I have right now so I probably won’t go that route
I’ll just probably go with a different Logitech model with a larger FoV; was hoping for some recommendations from field users but always helpful to experiment.
Here’s a list of cams known to work with Octoprint - I wish it had info about the FOV because I’m looking for a camera for my printer.
Logitech 930 has a 90 degree FOV. https://www.amazon.com/Logitech-C930e-1080P-Video-Webcam/dp/B00CRJWW2G

The 930 is actually the one I just ordered!
I’ll be sure to report back how well it works.

way better with that logitech c930. The Genius camera with a 120 degree FoV looks good too; may get it as well and compare side by side.
got a few prints running tonight if someone wants to see the camera in action.
EDIT: won’t let me upload the photo due to some error. Can watch the feed in the previous link I shared,
Edit2: fixed after talk reboot
