Maybe this is why there is little difference between certain tool brands.

That’s interesting, pretty in-depth but it’s missing a few I’m curious about. Harbor Freight/ICON is still a mystery, and who makes Tekton? I googled it an they’re based in the US which comes as a surprise to me.
The companies are never going to give you the info but I think what’d be really interesting is who manufactures what. Like I’ve always heard that the Japanese Makita stuff is nicer.
Both Harbor Freight and Tekton are “independent” distributors they do some design work but the majority of their business is finding factories in Taiwan and China that produce a given a tool and are willing to make a private label version.
