I have relatives coming from out of town, and one is a seamstress by training, a theatre costume designer by trade, and one helluva tailor by hobby. She can sew anything, but loves making clothes. She has found a shortage of cloth materials in the USA, but her quest continues any time she travels. She has had some luck in the “Harry Hines Bazaar” area and the stores in that stretch (Golden D’Or is the only name I can remember), but I was wanting to ask the maker consciousness for any recommendations in the greater DFW area for cloth such as might be used by folks who make clothing (y’know, as opposed to interior upholstery, boat upholstery, awnings, etc.)
I appreciate any input, preferably with personal experience, but even if you “heard from a friend”, I’d love to look into it.
Thank you!
I haven’t been, but Fabrique is allegedly the place to go. Plano, northeast corner of Coit and George Bush, facing George Bush.

I took my mom (she’s been a seamstress since she was in high school) to Hancock Fabrics in Plano. That occupied her for a few minutes.
Some Walmart stores also have a fabric section that barely meets basic needs.
This place looks interesting:
Wherehouse Fabric Outlet Incorporated
Golden D’or is your best bet for garment fabrics.
If she’s interested in upholstery fabrics and other home decor construction goodies, try Best Fabrics just across the street from Golden D’or.
Oops, I see you specifically said no upholstery stuff. I’ll leave the recommendation up but sorry for skimming the first read through.
She sometimes does “other stuff”, too, but from what I understand has a much easier time finding quality fabrics for those projects. But I’m grateful for any info & happy to filter results as her wishes dictate once we’re shopping. I thank you each for the help so far, and for anyone thinking on it, please throw your opinion in!
Thank you.
There’s a good cluster of fabric stores in Addison (on Midway road, north of 635.) Fabric Yard is my fave, also 5-Star Fabrics and Cutting Corners. They do lean heavily toward interior and design fabrics, but the selection is just huge, and prices way, way below the garment stores. (Perfect for costumes!) I have scored pretty brocades, calicos, silks, and leather pieces from the remnant bins. Trims, too.
Just north of Belt Line?
North of Beltline - more like north of Keller Springs but south of Trinity mills -
