What would any available floor space be used for?

There is much talk about personal storage and areas that are supposedly under utilized etc.

My question is… Why don’t I see much talk about what new thing, stuff, committee is desiring a new space or more space.

I would think you would need for someone to say, “Hey! I want to have an area to grow and train rubber chickens.” and then others would have to chime in saying, “Yeah I would so join up with a group of people doing that.”

At that point, there is now a need for space and someone would then have to determine if that need somehow represented one of two things which the six sigma people touched on…

  1. How will this new thing attract new members and help infuse more income to the Space?
    or
  2. How will this new thing help keep the existing members so that they will continue to pay their monthly fees?

After that is determined, then I think the witch hunt can begin and someone is going to be sad ofcourse, but supposedly the greater good of the organization is maintained.

So… Before we start trying to free up lots of empty space…

What new thing or group of members are needing new/more floor space?

A short time ago, it was Jewelry that needed a space. Right now, we have workable space. However, we do not really have room to add things like casting or lapidary work. Both of which would attract new members.

Foundry has a slab roller coming in today. Because of the lack of space, it will not be able to be left available. This is a piece of equipment that, I for one, find very useful. (yes one can use a rolling pin, but you can do that at home).

I would expect that an area for sewing and textile arts would be useful and would attract new members also. We have some interest in weaving but no place for looms. It seems that one of the cutting boards is almost always out and in use now

I have an idea that many other areas are similar

If we had more space we could do something novel, like create safe 28" aisles of egress so that people wouldn’t have to run under an automotive lift or through the machine shop to exit in the event of a fire.

Just sayin’ …

How about a Space Committee? Just a big block of empty space right in the middle… “to explore and measure the emotional energy potential of negative space juxtaposed within a conspicuous proximity of diverse and productive activity”. :stuck_out_tongue:

I’ll check to see if Carrollton requires a permit for this type of activity.

Except they teach us walk don’t run in an emergency. I don’t know how well that would work if you were being chased by a mountain lion. Lol

There are times that I have found it hard to get from the jewelry area over to the metal shop area. The back way blocked by cars, the middle path by cords, fans and other things and a cluster of folks in the aisle by project storage, and or folks moving things in and out of it. One time, I went out of the workshop, used the hall by CA and came in through the woodshop! Not good

When we had empty floor space when we moved in, I wanted to build an indoor rollercoaster https://youtu.be/2mSgbfjRmA4

I refuse to consider this idea, the example provided has no loops or inverts.

Here’s a better example:

… and you thought we had issues getting insurance coverage before…

Alex is going to veto that one because it’s not a woodie.

After the major incident on the Texas Giant, I don’t think I ever want to be the person building a wooden rollercoaster…

On a more serious note, the A/V room we have talked about joining the quiet room to make a studio booth.
