I’m looking into starting learning welding. I have done some researched and watched my friend do a lot of welding (grinding peasant here) and would like to learn how to do it myself as he lives in houston and don’t have access to his tools often. I don’t see any metal shop classes or welding classes. Would anyone be available to give me some pointers?
Here is the thread where the most recent classes were mentioned:
They are posted on our Events Calendar ( https://calendar.dallasmakerspace.org ). Many classes have limits to ensure each participant has a chance to learn the material well, so you probably want to “register” via our calendar ASAP to make sure you get a spot.
I don’t see it mentioned, so apologies if I managed to overlook:
safety class is required first (no cost).
Then follow up with any of the welding classes which suit your fancy (cost associated to offset consumables). This helps us be sure folks don’t show up to learn to weld in parachute pants and flip flops, hair blowing majestically in the breeze…
If it helps, these classes aren’t categorized under “welding”, which prevented me from finding them at first. Any way to categorize them after the fact?
Should try to:
a) remember that for future
b) check with the instructor on these ones ( @LeeCJones , right?)
Happy to do the latter, if I run into him.
No promises on the former.
I feel like some people want to, but I imagine how much trouble we’d be in with two of me.
I am serious though. I’ve helped a new member build a table and I’m just waiting on a member to get parts for a old vehicle he is restoring before I slice the rusted bumper off and help him fill in some holes he wants sealed up.
I am just too busy with my job to really teach right now. But working to make rich guy richer wears thin after a while. At least DMS members have faces, it’s not apple, Amazon, or even Disneyland like I usually contract for.
