“Radioactivity Counter”

What an interesting idea. They are looking for a pretty rare particle, they estimate that in any century, only one particle falls on a given square kilometer of the Earth. Not positive I’m doing the math right but, that would mean if the entire earth would see about 1 particle every 6.2 seconds.

If every person on the planet had a phone and ran the app, I think we would only cover about 2.9% of the planet. This based on human population only covering 10% of the land mass of the earth. That is 15,252.521 km^2 so we could expect to find around 1 particle every 57.5 hour, or 1 particle 2.4 days. That is definitely a needle in a hay stack, but still cool science.
