Unhealthy Hide Out

Now, before anyone gets upset, I asked Nick before titling this post since it’s the yang to its yin.

I know we have folks here who like to cook and experiment in the kitchen and while his thread is about healthy foods I thought it would be interesting to see what bad-for-you-foods that our members love and would share with others.

One of my favorites is horrible for you but tastes oh-so-good! Fettuccine Alfredo and the pasta takes time, but isn’t hard to make.

For the noodles you need 4 cups of flour, 4 extra-large eggs, 2 teaspoons of salt, and 2 tablespoons of olive oil. Make a cone with the flour and salt on a clean counter top, hollow it out, and put the eggs in the middle. Whip them well with a fork and then stir in the oil and start pulling the flour into the mix with the spinning fork. When it stiffens you start kneading it. Put extra flour on the counter top if it’s sticking.

Once it’s well kneaded you wrap it with clingwrap and set it aside in the fridge for an hour. Cut portions off and roll it out on a well floured countertop. Make it as thin as you can (less than 1/8") and cut into strips and boil them in salted water like you would any other pasta.

The sauce is simple: 1 stick of butter, 8 ounces of heavy cream, and 8 ounces of grated or shredded Parmesan cheese. Melt the butter and mix in the rest of the ingredients. Add pasta water as needed to get the consistency desired. Pepper to taste. No salt since the cheese and butter adds enough.

I like to cook some Italian venison sausages with onions and peppers then put that over top of the pasta and sauce.

Fats and salt out the wazooo! Oh, and a billion calories from all the fats.

Just wait until I post the recipe for Bananas Foster!

Peanut butter plus brownies plus peanut butter plus plus plus plus

I’m a huge sugar junkie and this actually looks very unappetizing.

Raymond,

Unhealthy would be having that super duper sized “diet coke” to offset a few calories…

I recently ate a slice of candy bar cake, with M&Ms on top, kitkats on the
side. I had a similar reaction. And I thought I could eat all the sweets.

Sincerely,

You can actually eat all of these rich and satisfying foods if you do it in moderation and in relation to the number of calories you burn off in exercise. Regular exercise is good for your health and well being. Tracking your calories and your exercise with an activity tracker can help you make informed decisions about what yummy foods you can enjoy without negatively affecting your overall health…

YUM!

That’s one thing I want to try and make one day. Jason’s Deli does a great job with theirs and you can get some at Afrah in Richardson and over in Irving at Beltline & 635. Afrah makes some different types - including one with pistachio.

I have tried a couple cake-in-a-cup recipes. Not too bad for a quick choco fix.

Not a sweet, but on the high fat side

Take 1/2 lb of pan sausage (or one could use gr meat) Brown, add seasonings like Mrs Dash, then add in either pepper and onion mix , or chopped broccoli or chopped spinach. Cook for a couple of min, then take up and mix with 1/2 a lg block cream cheese (low fat is fine) and either shredded cheddar cheese or Mex cheese or Italian blend cheese (great with the spinach)

Then let this cool while you open a can of crescent rolls. pinch the triangles together, so you can have 4 lg rectangle, then 1/2 those. fill each with the meat/cheese mix and then seal and bake until brown. I will eat them cold.

If you want a hearty party food, quarter the rectangles and make bite size balls instead

Brigadeiros.

I’ve found if you don’t heat the chocolate hot enough to stiffen up as much as it is supposed to, it’s just like frosting, but I haven’t actually tried using it that way. It still tastes great as brigadeiros, but they are softer and more fragile.

Of course, those do take work. I have much lazier craving fixes…

I have a tub of chocolate frosting in the fridge. Sometimes when I get a sweet craving, I just take a spoonful of that and take my time eating it. At just a spoonful, the tub will last me months.

Another thing I make every so often, and I have no idea on the health side of it, is just butter and honey. I put as much honey in the butter as will mix in and not separate, and then just use it as a dip for sandwich bread, or sometimes spread it onto a slice of bread and fold it in half as a sandwich.

I’m thoroughly intrigued…

Interesting note:
The regret I feel ingesting both at once is greater than the sum of the regret I feel ingesting its parts.

That is :

Regret(nutella X redbull) > Regret(nutella) + Regret(redbull)

or

Regret(nutella X redbull) ≠ Regret(nutella) + Regret(redbull)

Indicating that the act of regretting something I eat is non-associative.
