Unblock Walter on Talk

@AlexRhodes @ESmith @Robert_Davidson @lukeiamyourfather @Lampy

It appears that by a vote of 75% to 25%, the occupants of Talk would like @wandrson un-blocked on these forums. By any measure, this is a majority. Please re-instate full Talk access for him.

Thanks.

Must be my age or my dry sense of humour - but I first read that as "re-instate ‘fun’ talk access…

…can’t be as bad as me misreading the word “click” as the prefix to “butt.”

Luke, I appreciate that you’ve taken up a significant amount of your time with this issue, including answering my not so cordial questions about it.

Shall we conduct a more comprehensive poll then?

Do you consider internet polls a viable alternative to our current governance model?

I’m more curious as to how it’d affect the results.

Do you consider internet polls a viable alternative to our current governance model?

Considering that:

  1. The charge and evidence against Walter does not support the BoD’s recent sanction; and

  2. those claiming Walter is bad for this forum were greatly outnumbered by his supporters in a poll Luke drafted; then

Yes, I think our current governance model seems inferior to a simple poll of the forum participants.

Wow. Don’t sugar coat it, tell us how you really feel.

I see Walter still has not been unblocked, despite the Talk community support to do so.

Other members: Please remember this when voting. You might be voting for a candidate which will block you if your Talk posts cross some arbitrary, unpublished threshold of “un-excellence”. Check the BoD notes for the board members who voted to block Walter for a private message while only giving another member a slap on the wrist for his public threat.

You can file a motion for the next membership mtng and if there is a quorum of voting members present, take a vote. Depending on whose interpretation you get, a membership vote can over ride the BoD. Put it on the agenda.

Well, that’s the crux of some of Walter’s angst. Based on the comments at a meeting with someone familiar with law, but who is not a specialist in this area and who’s name will not be mentioned, it appears that the ability to recall BoD members is the only confirmed recourse for the membership.

With the BoD election coming up, other methods (like this thread) may be more effective than the “nuclear option”.

The wording of the block from Talk didn’t give a specific time, so I didn’t think it was forever. Hopefully it will be fixed and he will be given an end date soon!

I’d say do it any way.
It would send a strong msg.
Set a precedent.
And if nothing else it would clarify who has the final say - BoD versus Membership.

The membership as they elect the directors.

The durating of Walter’s suspension from posting on Talk forum as discussed at the board meeting was 90 days. How this missed being documented in the meeting minutes is both hard to understand as well as very troublesome to me. @ESmith ?

That’s odd, because everyone else I’ve talked to seemed to think it could end earlier than that and was for an undefined period of time.

Was this something discussed but not confirmed?
