Turning help - mounting

Looking for some help on this project. I need to get this on a lathe so I can get the core for a lightsaber build made out of leather. I glued a 90 pieces of leather together on this bar and now I need to figure out how to get it attached to a lathe.

I have no problem cutting the bar off. I will need to at some point as it is.

Drill a hole through two pieces of wood, put one on either end with the bar through the holes, and mount the wood to the lathe, using the pressure from back of the lathe to press two pieces of wood together

Thank you. That seems simple enough.

if the bar is relatively centered you can use a jacobs chuck in the headstock to hold the threaded rod. You might need to trim the rod a bit. Then I would cut the rod off the other end and use the tailstock with a live center to support that end.

I’ve never turned leather but I have a few ideas for mounting. Do you have rough dimensions? Will you be at the space tomorrow by any chance?

It’s about 2" square right now. I need to get it to a little less than 1.25". I haven’t picked the piece of leather I am going to wrap it in yet. Once I have that I’ll have a better measurement.

I won’t make it tomorrow. I was planning on coming up in the week sometime. If you’ll be around during the week I can try and come up then. Thanks!

I’ll be around Tuesday-Thursday in the evening for lathe classes…give me a shout if you make it in and we’ll brainstorm it.
