Throwing wobble

Hello!

I have recently been having some issues with throwing and I am hoping someone can help me out with my issue. The last couple times I’ve tried throwing I keep having the bat shake when I apply pressure from the side pushing towards center to center the clay (do not have this issue with applying pressure from the top pushing down).

I’ve stopped the wheel to make sure the bat is on correctly, tried different approaches to centering the clay, I’ve tried a combo of different wheels and bats but I keep having this issue.

Once the wheel is stopped and I confirm the bat is on correctly it is a bit loose. It appears that the holes to attach and keep the bat secure have a small space of wiggle room.

The best I can figure is I might be doing something wrong as I’ve only been throwing a couple of months, or there are some bats that don’t quite fit properly.

I’m curious if this is a common beginner issue with technique and/or if anyone else has had this issue and what they did to resolve it.

thanks!

Hi, you could try some wet paper on/around the pins to get the bats to wobble less.

Clay around the pins also helps.

There are some good solutions here already but to answer your technique questions this is not a new or old thrower issue it’s just wear and tear on the batts (or a manufacturing issue).

If you want to get fancy, you can buy a Bat Mate for $9-$15 dollars (you want a 12”, holes 10” apart for bat pins). It’s made of a squishy rubberized material that you get wet and it grips the bottom of your bat to prevent it from moving around. Also cool for trimming wide items on. I like the blue one from Xiem, personally.
