Hey everyone, I’m relatively new to machining and need to tap some threads in a piece of round stock. Is there anyone that could help me with this?

Are you tapping axially on the end, or radially on the perimeter?
I’m not sure of the difference. I just have a piece of round stock with a hole already bored through the center. I would like to create threads that run parallel with the length of the rod.
The entire length of the rod? How long is it? What’s the hole size and what size threads are you trying to cut?
Most importantly, what material?
Mild steel. I believe the outer diameter is 3/4" and the inner diameter is 1/2".
