I have a D&D group that seems to be slated towards meeting on Mondays starting at around 7 or 8 PM, lasting around 3-4 hours in length. I’ve been having trouble finding a good place to host it (outside of DMS) since our houses have circumstances that make it unideal for hosting. While searching and asking around for such a location, I was recommended a room in the front lobby of the DMS. I saw that it looked like it was a kind of meeting room that has a Table Top cabinet in it. Is that a room in which people can host games? If so, what is the process for that? I’m a member of DMS so I can fob my way in, but I don’t know if everyone in our group has to be a member to be allowed in (in which case it’s not an ideal option), or if it tends to be booked quite often on the timeslot we’re shooting for, or any other reason that makes it non-viable.
I tried finding similar posts to this and even checked out the tabletop gaming topic on this, but I couldn’t find out much about that room, and the last post on the tabletop category was in 2024. Because of that, I wanted to post here in the more general topic to get more visibility to hopefully get my question answered. I’m likely to walk in later today to see if I can poke around and ask questions about it, too.
Thanks in advance! In the case that this room wouldn’t suit our needs or is unavailable, I’d also appreciate any recommendations of other places that may suit our needs, particularly in the Carrollton or Richardson areas.
Have you tried Boardwalk Games? I did a quick search and it looks like they have table space in their store. I don’t know what the process or costs are to reserve space, but it looks like you can call to get more info about it.
Hiya! I checked in with some folks and here are some of the high level items for hosting outside events. The room has been under construction, so not sure if it is officially available for hosting yet.
You’ll need at least 1 member to reserve the room
Everyone should complete the waivers at least once
Right now there aren’t any reoccurring events in that room, but classes do take priority if it ends up being booked
Events are booked though the calendar. Once you sign in, then do the Hosting Event from the drop down.
I’m Hannah and have been in charge of creating a dnd room just for groups like yours at DMS. It’s the little room next to the big one with the cabinet. It has a closed for maintenance sign on it at the moment while I finish up getting the room ready. It’s so close! Actually have a group that is already playing in there Wednesday’s with the understanding that it’s not quite done and dust is still being made.
I’ll talk to them to see what I can find out. I’ve been in there a few times but never seriously considered it since the people in my group are a little self conscious.
Thank you for the detailed response. I’ve read Humegirl’s response too! It sounds like a pretty good place to consider. I’ll make sure to get all of the pre-requisites checked off and see if my group is okay with this.
