This is a reminder that our supplies should not leave the building with you. We have seen an increase in the amount of dust masks that have disappeared, and the quantities are not proportionate to the people using the space. We are talking many boxes leaving the premises since Monday of this week.
Any theft is not tolerated, but please know that we may be especially harsh if you are stealing safety products and supplies (soap, toilet paper, paper towels, sanitizer, etc) with the current situation unfolding.
N95 masks are selling for $30 EACH on eBay. I hope this is being investigated appropriately.
Times like these bring out the best of some people & the worst of some. People panic when something like what’s going on around happens. I stopped to get distilled water for some equipment at work, Walmart’s isle of paper products was completely empty. My wife in her normal grocery shopping yesterday was only able to get a 6 pack of toilet paper.
Went to Costco for normal shopping needs, and every cart had bottled water in it. Costco was limiting water to 2 cases per customer. Is there a hurricane or tornado coming that I missed the memo about? People are stupid when anything out of the ordinary happens.
The Sams in Lewisville was extremely stocked in Bottled water, paper towels, and toilet paper, FYI! I don’t know how these things will save you from a sickness if you don’t have the food to last you the 6 months you’re staying home wiping your butt and drinking water for… But good luck to you!
My sister in-law bought a couple cases because she thought there was going to be a water shortage. I said just open your faucet.
I read an article that basically said the tp shortage is being fueled by people spamming social media about the lack of tp. So the next person starts to panic thinking they can’t get it anymore and so on and so forth. It is basically how panic buying starts. I know more about my friends bathroom habits than I care to ever again.
Sometimes I wonder if this isn’t some experimental orchestrated campaign ala the great Hurricane Harvey gas shortage - get a few iconic images on zuckbook or twitter and see how the rubes start to panic.
Causing an artificial panic in the run up to an election ?
That NEVER happens.
( end sarc. For now. )
But its not just the US, I doubt the world revolves around our elections.
I dont really understand why there is this much more concern over this than other diseases though. Its been interesting to watch.
Somebody get a rope.
It may be in part that our social media is also contagious. As is our news media.
And don’t get me wrong. This is a serious disease. Everything seems over the top though.
Panic leads to power grabs. Always sets off internal alarms for me.
Just an update-Sam’s Club in Lewisville is wiped out as far as cleaning supplies and TP and some canned goods.
They did have lots of bulk containers of spices though!
Darn… I was going to stop by there today… Well… Hopefully they will have the lint rollers I need.
Lewisville Costco is out of lots of “essentials” I was trying to get stock for DMS. They had plenty essential oils!
I used a box of masks as a prop for a philosophy discussion last night. Would someone be kind enough to retrieve it from the Lecture Hall and put it back on the pallet? I totally forgot all about it.
I don’t think the word “essential” means what they think it means!
Interesting. What was the gist of the discussion?
I recall a few… the Coronavirus, transmission methods, Richard Meyer’s donation, the quantity of masks, the location of the pallet, when they were donated, the effectiveness or ineffectiveness of using a mask, and ironically… what DMS plans to do with the masks, whether or not DMS is stocking up on supplies, whether or not the masks are available for membership use, and whether or not anyone would be banned from DMS if they disappeared during a pandemic.
Very similar to the discussion in this thread, only… we each make eye contact and connect to one another in person.
Come by next Wednesday and say hi.
