Sublimating on matte board?

I think I’d like to sublimate a photo onto white matte board. It seems like it should be possible. Anyone have experience with that? Thx.

Sublimation is a polimer based dye.

Paper itself won’t take the dye, but there are many options that will.

How large is your finished dye sub print?

Here are my thoughts:

  1. Use matte white mylar stencil sheet. Mylar/duralar will take sublimation. I have used this in clear/gloss Mylar and it has come out beautifully.

  2. Prepare the mat board at home with a dye sub spray, bring to dms and dye sub as usual.

  3. Use a matte dye sub fiber board. (Available at Johnson’s plastics plus, etc…)

My objective is to have something I can laser cut that will be thicker than photo or scrapbook card. Size is 5" x 7". I can always print a photo and glue together a bunch of scrapbook card but I’m trying to avoid having to do that.

I will investigate the options you’ve suggested. Thx!

The sublimation fiber board is laserable.
