Star Wars: The Force Awakens - Theater buyout?

Would there be any interest in doing a buyout of a show for SW:TFA on opening weekend at the Alamo Drafthouse?

That would be awesome if we could get that many space members, friends, and family to buy it out and attend together. @KrissyHeishman, @Krissy_Heishman would PR want to help possibly push this?

I’ve sent an email inquiry to the Drafthouse asking about costs for opening weekend & Thursday midnight show possibilities.

If this does happen, I’d be great if we could get some of the members with R2 units to bring them along. Also, do we know of any local BB-8 builds that might be finished?

I had an R2 unit, but it has a bad motivator.

Well what about that blue one?

I am going to pay the extra money to see this movie in IMAX.

Are we really trying to make plans for a movie that isn’t supposed to open for four months?

How would a buyout work? Guarantee so many ticket purchases and we get to restrict who can purchase a ticket? Or do we just organize lots of people to preorder tickets for a specific show?

I highly doubt we would be able to buy out a showing on opening weekend. It would be really cool if we could though, I’m down for it.

I’m so in, hopefully they let us.

They got back to me with a form letter quote on private rental of a theater (IE bringing in your own DVD/Bluray, etc.) It ain’t cheap, about $80 per person in their smallest theater (45 people) once you include food minimum and facility rentals.

I’ve sent a reply clarifying that we just want to book out a pre-exisiting show that they would already have, not a private “custom” event.

Worst case, we just all pick a show time once they’re available and all try and buy tickets on our own. I’d suggest a pre-show meetup at the space and watch the De-specialized Edition or something first, kind of like the TRON thing we did back at the first location when TRON: Legacy came out.

Meh. Not thrilled with the response from the Drafthouse. To quote Immorten Joe: “Mediocre…”

Got clarification that yes, the fees schedules they sent the first time is what they would charge for us to buy out a show. $88 per person seems a bit much…

Guess we’ll just have to pick a show ahead of time and then all get our tickets on our own through the normal routes.

Considering how quickly the tickets for the first showings will sell out, it’s certainly not unrealistic to start planning now.
