Stacking = Damage (Please Avoid)

Hey @Team_CeramicsFire, I need to address something important. My pieces are not meant to be stacked due to the heavy surface texture, and I’ve now had multiple pieces damaged because they were stacked anyway. I understand space can be tight, but my work specifically cannot be handled that way. There was available shelf space, and other pieces could have been safely nested instead.

I put a lot of time and care into these pieces, so it’s frustrating to see them damaged, especially when the damage is severe enough to require restarting them entirely.

Going forward, please do not stack anything of mine. If space is an issue, I would rather wait for the next firing than have my work damaged again. I really appreciate the kiln team and all the work that goes into loading and firing, I just wanted to make sure this is clear moving forward.

Hi,

There may have been available shelf space when you arrived to pick up your bisque however when we unload the kilns there may not have been. We will stack pieces from the same potter in order to fit all the items on the shelves. When we stack items we do take care to carefully place them together.

I’m sorry your pieces have been damaged and it certainly is not what we want to have happen. However, this is a hobbyist’s community studio with tons of work that the VOLUNTEER kiln team is processing weekly. We can endeavor to accommodate your request although we can not guarantee that your items will not be stacked in the future.

There are a few kiln for hire places in the area that you may want to look into. Some will provide you with more control and possibly more of a comfort level.

Thank you

Thanks for the clarification. I’m aware this is a volunteer run system.

The issue I’m addressing is damage caused by stacking. My work isn’t compatible with that process, which is why the pieces that were stacked were damaged. This is the second time this has happened.

Given that stacking may still occur, I’ll continue limiting what I place on the DMS shelves, as I’ve already been doing, and only leave pieces that can tolerate the DMS process.

Also, as this is a community, and we as kiln team are not the only members who move things around, despite what the notices say. So many pieces are stacked and unstacked while members look for their items. So please do not assume a kiln team member stacked. :slightly_smiling_face:
