Spot fix a wax finished table?

I have a neighbor who has a largish wooden dining table (maybe 4’ x 10’ - maybe larger). He believes the finish is wax and not polyurethane. Courtesy of an R/C airplane project, he now has removed a portion of the wax down to the wood in a section of the table.

Can the the finish be ‘spot’ fixed/corrected, or will he need to remove the entire top surface, and re-finish? Or is the proper solution something else, altogether? Thanks!

I doubt wax only but if so you can just re-wax. The problem is if it has finish on it under the wax you need to remove the wax to fix the finish which may damage the rest of the finish.

If your going to sand down anaway it won’t hurt to try various things first.

I obtained some more information. The wood is Mango. And apparently the table was finished with Java brown stain with lacquer and a wax finish.

Here’s some photos: one is of the R/C Model plane (aka chemical) damage. The other is actually a wear pattern from a wrist (think typing on a computer).
