I have a friend (a bladesmith) who is looking for a source for some carving quality soapstone and/or alabaster. He is looking for a TX source and stone 8+ lbs in weight (so not jewelry-sized chunks).
Any suggestions? Houston area would be perfect, Dallas/Austin probably good, but if they do mail order/Internet sales then anywhere would be a prospect.
I don’t know what the project is (8 lbs is much too large for knife scales unless making several), nor do I know why either soapstone or alabaster will work.

And I checked Rock Barrell , and their website isn’t set up for searching their stock. Also, the note on the front page is about Memorial Day. Might be worth a phone call…
