What I don’t get is how they were able to machine the spirals into the rod while it was embedded at that angle…
It looks like a 4-flute cutter and is probably why it got gummed up and could release the chip load.

I understand that, your commnet made me look at it closer … but I’m curious as to what was being done so in the classes that are taught we can show GREAT examples. You know, like auto shop have valves embedded in pistons.
Edit: Would make a great 10 x 10.

In what is that embedded? Is it a workpiece, or is it a jaw?
