Small Horizontal Bandsaw - Useful for DMS?

Hello!

I recently upgraded to a nice Wells in my personal shop so the small 4x6" horizontal bandsaw I was previously using (with a stand, though removed) is duplicative. I’m wondering if it’s something Metal Shop can make use of?

It’s old and by no means a great machine - paid too much for it unseen at an auction ages ago and got it running out of spite - but it’s cut a lot of stock now and is a pretty solid machine, though it will need the cutoff switch rewired (recentlyish… replaced the motor and hadn’t done it yet).
Currently has a 6/10 tpi bimetal blade and I know I have at least one spare new 14/18.

It works as a vertical saw too, plate is already in place, so if y’all can’t use it I’ll probably remove the vise / base and make it into an ultra compact freestanding bandsaw… but I’d rather donate if the space can use it.

Let me know! Thanks!

I think our current horizontal bandsaw fits the bill for most things we need out of it, the only feature I can think of that it’s missing is the ability to cut at angles. You have a photo of it?

If DMS doesn’t want it would be you be interested in a member taking it instead? My house is suspiciously absent a bandsaw lol.

Turns out I have plenty of photos of my new saw but not that one. Ironically, except this one cutting an angle!

TBD on giving it away if the space can’t use it. Sunk-cost fallacy and all that, may try mounting it upright as a compact vertical saw.

I think we could use it. I miss being able to cut angles, our metal shop bandsaw only cuts 90’s. Good bimetal blades are cheap and a 4x6 doesnt take up much floor space. Does it have adjustable bearing blade guides? I tried to help a friend adjust his 4x6 to cut straight and his guides weren’t adjustable so we couldn’t fix it.

A few photos would be helpful.

I’ve had a 4x6 bandsaw at home for many years, its on a piece of plywood with casters and I store it under a low shelf. It cut like crap when I first got it from a garage sale for $100. I got a new blade for it and while taking the old blade off I noticed the teeth were pointing backwards, the blade had been flipped inside out. It had a tiny “1 HP” motor on it that ran really hot, there was no way it was really 1HP. I put a real 3/4 HP motor on it. I have an abrasive cutoff saw and metal cutting chopsaw but use the bandsaw far more frequently because the cuts are cleaner and it doesn’t throw metal shavings in a 10’ radius like the chopsaw.

The blade guides are… semi-adjustable. There’s enough play in the brackets that I have it running pretty straight with everything tightened down. Milling a couple slots in one would make it much easier to get aligned.
I’ll try to remember to get a couple photos tomorrow. It’s stored under my welding table atm.
Horizontal bandsaws are great. I got enough use out of this one to justify the space for the Wells (not to mention a great price because the motor was toast). Being a garage shop, it’s my go-to for the same reasons… and because the sound is so much easier to deal with.
