SCA Armor / Medieval Plate Mail series of classes

It’s on my “to try” list when work quiets down in November.

I’m getting a hold of someone that was willing to teach and see if they are still interested in teaching.

What type of armor did he want to make?

Medieval type. We have no idea where to start though. Any help is appreciated

Metal, then. He should probably look through some books and pick out a style…

Tell them to find a knight or medieval soldier picture on Pinterest or elsewhere and post the picture. Depending on style, it’s definitely possible for a beginner. Something simple like 12th century would be very doable, but I would dissuade them from making something from the 15th century. The fit and fluting, especially in gothic style armor, is not a beginner project.

I’ve seen foam patterns for various types of armor online, Adam savage and punished props academy did a two part video on a nazghul gauntlet. The foam mostly helps identify the fit and pattern needed to cut out the metal, and also helps get the rivets set in the correct location. Also definitely look up the “fabrication d’armure médiévale” series by armure dubé.

I’ve also hear good things about prototyping in posterboard too
