RoS - Mapping a room with LiDAR and SLAM toolbox

Hey y’all!!

We’re working on this floor tiling robot and we could really use some help.

We are using RoS2, we got LiDAR input and SLAM working!

Currently we are stuck with trying to getting the navigation plugin working (navigation2).
We have a demo in 3 days.
Any help or referral would be greatly appreciated.

Here is a SLAM-generated map of the glassworks room

We’re in glassworks until ~7PM - If you know RoS and SLAM, talk to us!

@lukeiamyourfather has done some LiDAR mapping, although perhaps with different tools.

I’m familiar with LIDAR and SLAM but not ROS so I’m probably not of much help in this case. Sounds like I have another rabbit hole to add to my list of internet things…

@lukeiamyourfather Well, if you wanna play with the robot you’re more than welcome to come to the glassworks room and we can try to solve this together! We’re new to SLAM too

There are at least 4 members of the Dallas Personal Robotics Group (DPRG) that are using ROS. You may want to contact them through their email link: https://www.dprg.org/
@cottjr may have some more insight to add.

Hi All - Sorry just noticed this thread. I hope your demo went well. Meanwhile - please consider this an open invitation to bring LIDAR / SLAM / ROS related questions to any of DPRG’s regular meetings. For example, we meet virtually every Tuesday night @ 7:30PM Dallas. You can find details here https://www.dprg.org/. If you jump on the bridge, you’ll have a chance to raise questions on such topics & likely get answers.

As @David_Steele mentioned, DPRG have several members with ROS experience (ROS 1 and ROS 2), many members with LiDAR experience and some with SLAM. Also- DPRG have recently sponsored a ROS training course (though I can’t find the details at the moment)…
