[Resolved] FusionPro Epilog Laser Issue - Down as of 2024/09/02

@Team_Laser
I dont see a thread about it on talk, so I’ll post the beginning of it here.

Problem Statement:
The epilog is etching double image near the center-right side of the image.

Findings:
At first i thought maybe the laser is out of alignment, but i etched the same image on three different areas and they all doubled in the same area.

Next thing i want to check is if something is loose and if the mirrors are okay.

Click the Member Access category, and request your green dot. Talk is completely separate thing from the accounting system, so it doesn’t know that you’re a member. The Issues/Requests category is behind the Member wall. We just don’t want the entire internet scraping our problems.

Oh, and tag @Team_Laser . While you have posted in the Laser category, not everybody reads all the posts. That notifies the folks who can fix things.

I commented on the green dot thread not realizing that you already suggested it here. I think the new system is a huge improvement. Thanks for getting that set up!

If it’s doubling your image in the same spot on your piece not matter where you put it on the table… there is a problem with your image.

Did you happen to notice if the laser is etching those areas in more than one pass?

I doubt it’s the image since Burt printed before me and also got double image in the middle-right as well. I forgot to post the picture for that.

So when I printed, I decided to watch the laser print and it only did one pass.

But, I’m still fairly new to using the laser so maybe it is an image file thing? I printed with an svg file.

Next time I’ll print an X or something simple if i have to do a test image again…

Generally speaking:

  • if it double etches in specific parts of the table, it’s an alignment issue
  • if it double etches anywhere on the table, it’s usually a damaged (likely cracked) lens.
  • a lesser known cause for double etching is also if one of the belts is to loose/slipping (basically the rebound affect causes the shadow)

Of course, as others said, it could be the image - especially if you are using a regular image and not a vector.

Reason I suggested image is that it seems to happen anywhere on the table but only on that part of the image.

Now that you mention it, this may very well be backlash when the head changes direction at the end of travel. That actually seems very likely. Belt tension should be looked at.

It does appear to be backlash. The belt tension is low (as measured by the fusion), but the tensioner is adjusted as tight as possible, so my guess is that the belt has finally worn out.

For now, you can get better results by using the unidirectional engraving setting (it’s a toggle below the power slider) but it will take 2x as long. That way it only cuts when moving left to right, so the stretch in the belt isn’t as much of an issue.

Thanks for the explanation!

So, in your opinion, is it likely to still vector cut correctly at the proper speeds?

Cuts are usually pretty slow so I wouldn’t expect any issues with them.

The power seems to be dropping off. Maybe time to check the lens, again.

All … the issue is being tracked on Issues & Requests at this post.

At the point the machine is tagged out and we will be calling the local service provider.

Just bring everybody up-to-date on the situation, I finally received a call back from the vendor today and He has been out of state doing a service call. I’ll be meeting them at the space Monday morning and I’ll let everyone know how the service call goes and next steps.
