[RESOLVED] Donner laser's light barely shines unless the tube is pushed to the left

I put a sign on the laser to this effect, saying you can get it to work by putting a small piece of painter’s tape on the right side of the lens tube, then push the tube up into its hole so the tape wedges in there tightly.

Luckily painter’s tape is just the right thickness for this hack to work.

@Team_Laser

I have spoken with Bruce re: “we don’t hack things” in Laser.
No one is to attempt to fix anything if not authorized.
The right thing to do is to put an Out of Service sign on the laser and notify us on Talk.
Bruce and I came up with an idea: have a literature holder with signs that say “Out of Service/Team Laser notified on Talk” and instructions that it is 110% OK to take a machine offline.

Donner laser’s light barely shines unless the tube is pushed to the left

Resolved.
Wispy acrylic debris was clinging to the mirror housing, disrupting the pointer beam.
I cleaned the debris from all surfaces and cleaned the mirrors and lens, too.
All is well.
Bruce verified that the pointer was improved.

This is not an out of service issue. The laser still works. Alignment is more difficult.

Move along folks.
