I was in the shop today and fixed the Lincoln. That is now our default MIG. I’ve hooked up the gas and it’s loaded with .035 and tested. If you do not have experience with gas and a MIG welder, do not use this welder.
The Hobart is our default flux-core welder, “for now”. There are issues with the gun releasing gas correctly to use it for MIG, but it works fine for flux core. If you need a basic wire welder and are not experienced with MIG, use this one. I will be working on it next to figure out what the issue is. It’s currently loaded with the correct wire.
The ThermalArc is still fine for arc and TIG.
I’ll be back in tomorrow to label the welders.
Also I’m guessing (hoping?) the owner of the lended plasma cutter came and got it back. So we currently don’t have a way to cut metal with torch or plasma. I’ll work on this problem as well. Oxy/propane, another plasma cutter, etc, are options. Feel free to chime in.
I just talked to John and he said he did not grab it. Though he noticed someone moved it on the other side of the divider, if anyone is there can you confirm it’s still in the room?
Once you’ve gone plasma, it’s hard to go back
If portability for field cutting was a factor, that’s where gas shines. Of course, you can also crank up the stick welder with some 6010 rod and just burn through it. Not a nice cut, but works in a pinch.
That would probably be the TIG. The MIG would be the red Lincoln on the green stand. They are labeled. Feel free to use it. I tested it this weekend and it’s working well.
