I heard that someone here has much experience building Prusa 3D printers. I will finally get in just a couple days an Original Prusa i3 MK2 printer kit in. Any help is appreciated. I am planning to stream the build on Youtube to invite various people around the world to hang out with me during the build and offer feedback.
@themitch22 Mitch Cerroni is probably who youād want to talk to for advice. Heās built more than one.
Congrats! I did a Prusa build live stream when I built mine at the space. https://youtu.be/LrXLnbsLx-Q
Iāll totally help you let me know when you are doing it. Itās fairly easy as long as you really pay attention to the instructions.
Mitch, Awesome! Thanks for sharing. I have watched a good bit of Part 1 of your build.
My printer will arrive as early as Friday and am hoping it is not stretched to Monday.
Perhaps we could meetup in the near future. Shoot me a text if you would 214-529-1816
Mine is on order! Not sure when it shipsā¦
I just build one last week, so far itās great. One thing I realized is the coating on the metal bed support decreased the diameter enough that it seemed like the screws to hold the bed down wanted to thread into it. Of course a bolt going through a threaded hole then into threaded standoffs would not work, I used one of the extra bolts to ādrillā out the 6 holes so that the bolt would be free to turn in the metal support so that it could tighten down the standoffs on the bed
The bed seems to be not perfectly flat, I tightened all 6 screws down as much as I could, the autoleveling works ok, still do some bed level adjustment. Iām glad so many people are getting mk2ās theyāve been backordered for months now after the good reviews they got on youtube.
It was delivered today! It was delivered to my wifeās workplace and Ill have it in like an hour - around 6pm.
I am streaming live in YouTube right now. Plan to start the build at 6pm or so Central. I am streaming live. In an hour or so I will have my Prusa in hand and will begin building it. Come join me. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XYkmuO9SJBM
the video is not up yet, Iāll watch your video I missed the stream.
LIVE at 7PM CST
It will be slightly better than watching paint dry. Bring beer and join me.
Mineās finally on the wayā¦ should be here Wednesday! They were holding it at the factory waiting until they released the multi-material upgrades, but when I contacted them they offered to split the order and ship the printer now (for no extra charge). Great service so farā¦
Their live chat is pretty responsive and helpful. Mine is still chugging away when I need it. So far I havenāt heard any complaints from the people that built them in my class. I still havenāt got octoprint running but thatās really the next thing to make it an awesome printer.
Are you having a problem with it, or just havenāt done it yet?
**For anyone who has the Original Prusa i3 MK2 3D printer and is interested in using Octoprint, it looks like a lot of people are happy with it. Here are a couple of links...**
A lot of tips througout this thread: OctoPi, OctoPrint and MK2

Thatās a pretty good video. Because I have a pi zero and pi cam I just been slacking on designing a mount for it and wire management. Now that the pi zero w came out I might swap it out.
Got the printer in Wednesday and was up and running Friday afternoon. 2 evening build is definitely the way to go. Not sure I would have had the mental sanity to do it all in one sitting. Printed the vase that comes with it and boy did it go well. I got the speed up to 175% with no visible defects before I chickened out.
@themitch22, do you run a UPS on yours or the ones at the space? Seems like I hear a number of people talking about them online and I just had a print freeze from what I think was a line voltage fluctuation.
I donāt feel like I need the battery functionality so much as the voltage regulation. Anybody have any ideas for that?
I had a ptfe tube clog, replaced it with an āofficialā ptfe tube from filastruder, however evidently Prusa uses their own (flanged on one side). Well my filament will not go all the way through and stops at some point.
Anyone have experience with disassembly and reassembly of the hotend on the Original Prusa i3 MK2? and maybe willing to meetup at DMS this weekend to help me out?

I have a couple spare UPS I can sell you.
No UPS on my printers, I have 3 of them and so far no major issues with power in my apartment. I doubt all three of my printers use more than 300 watts anyway.
Jared, I can try to help. that tapered PTFE tube is stuck in the body or could you remove it? I have quite a bit of PTFE tube as well from filastruder as well, it should work, you might have to get a really sharp knife or end of a drill bit, . Iāve built several e3d hotends and itās just standard 2mm ID tubing as far as I know. Iām definitely available to help with the Mk2 kits.
