Paul,

This works out amazingly. I trialed this with six searchers allowed three box openings out of six. One case had 3 loops of 2 and then I tried a loop of 4 and a loop of two. The loop has to be bigger than the allowance of box openings to fail; so long as the searcher’s personal number is the box number he starts with. If everyone agrees to start with their own number + 1 then the system has great probability to fail even though it was an organized approach. Because a box could have its own number inside and be a “loop” of 1.

The way for a normal person to solve this is to model it on small, with six or eight persons checking 3 or 4 boxes.

Thanks,
Bob
