PLA solvents for smoothing?

Acetone will solve will soften PLA, but it doesn’t actually dissolve it, unlike ABS which will totally dissolve in acetone. The problem I am having is quantity I do not need a full pint of MEK or whatever the other chemicals are (Tetrahyrdofuran?). Is there some way I can get a smaller bottle of whatever I use?

Which one would work best?

Additive coatings work well with PLA.

Smooth-On make XTC-3D - a 2part epoxy coating to smooth 3D prints in PLA, ABS, etc.

I’ve had good luck printing with a 0.1mm layer height and spraying a couple of light coats of Automotive Sandable primer spraypaint.

So I did a little research and came across this article:

The next chemical Tetrahydrofuran is too scary for me to use. The epoxy suggested is pretty expensive I could probably do better just by buying enamel and putting repeated coats on it until it’s smooth.

Automotive sandable primer works well for me when making 3D- printed terrain. The primer gap-fills the layer lines pretty well if printing with a small layer height.
