So it dawned on me that I should have brought this up before. You guys who are in San Francisco for the makerfaire, if you have time, I would suggest going by Jelly Belly. They are in Fairfield and give tours of their factory and how the Jelly Belly is made. My in laws live there & I have been a couple times. My in laws go there a lot & for occasions for birthdays or Christmas they will buy Belly Flops. Official Factory Tours
Another Maker-y place to visit in Palo Alto, the Computer History Museum: http://www.computerhistory.org/ The family spent the whole day there last year. Has two demo labs. One for the IBM 1401 (punch cards), another for PDP-1 (which I know nothing about).
Golden Gate National Park Conservancy has outdoor engineering models illustrating the principals behind the bridge’s design. Plus the bridge is hike-able. No parking to speak of; use the free shuttle from the Presidio. http://goldengatebridge.org/visitors/whattodo.php
If you visit South San Francisco, Armstrong Brewing Co. is my sister-in-laws nephew’s place. Little hole in the wall place that brews their own beer. Really good hard cider, too.
