I’m glad we had an extension for the Oneway, but can whoever used the extension please take it apart and but it back the way they found it? Myself and another lathe instructor would have done so, but we could not locate the gigantic Allen wrench needed for the job. We do not have the space to leave that extended. This weekend I saw that it had to be pulled out to allow room for folks using the Jet lathes. Which then caused a higher than usual traffic issue through the shop. Thanks.
I’d like to suggest that we leave the extension in place and consider moving the Jet lathes to a diagonal position relative to the wall.
I didn’t use the extension but did get involved with leveling/aligning the bed after it was reinstalled to allow smooth tailstock carriage over the join and it wasn’t an easy or quick process.
Another thought in favor of leaving it installed is that the extra carriage eliminates the need to remove the tailstock when working on deeper bowls with longer chisel.
that’s a fair point. Perhaps we need to align all of them at a slight tilt so they’re not too far out into the aisle, but also allow sufficient space to move around a workpiece. I understand this issue will solve itself once we expand and have more room. Also, I am to understand that tailstock needs rebuilding anyway.
agree we should leave it in place. I helped Jimmy attempt to get it aligned and it wasn’t happening. So if they finally got it square, lets leave it. I can help move stuff around this weekend if needed.
Hi, I moved all except the powermatic to a diagonal and I think it might work well - Also it is easier to clean behind the big lathes - How about if we try it for a while and see how it works? Re: the Oneway tailstock - I think we need a new lead screw - Current one has only been in for about two months but it feels like it is beginning to “skip” when tightened. I mentioned it to Jimmy Arledge and he was going to check with Oneway. The Powermatic tailstock is limping along - I broke it down, cleaned, lubed, removed the burrs and the quill is still a very tight fit. Lead screw threads are in good shape. Have you run in to this previously? Last two times it worked great after a good cleaning and steel wool buffing.
Thanks, Paul! Yes, will be nice to be able to easily get a broom behind the big lathes. Hopefully in the new space we will be able to store all of the attachments and stuff that lives back there on a separate shelf or something.
